Known as one of the most popular and versatile herbal oil used in aromatherapy, lavender essential oil leaves you with a soothing experience and has the power to heal the mind and body.

Lavender is a herb indigenous to the Mediterranean region. Extracted from the Lavender plant which goes by the botanical name Lavandula augustifolia, the oil is traditionally believed to have sedative, carminative, anti-depressive and anti-inflammatory properties, in addition to its recognised antimicrobial effects.
Products derived from the herb Lavender have been used for centuries as a therapeutic agent. The Romans used Lavender to scent their baths, beds, clothes and even hair. In fact, Lavender derives its name from the Latin word ‘lavare’ meaning ‘to wash”.
In more recent history, lavender became famous for its skin healing when René-Maurice Gattefossé, the 1930s French chemist, burned his hand in his laboratory. He applied lavender oil to treat the burn and was so impressed by the quick healing process that he published a book, “Aromathérapie: Les Huiles Essentielles, Hormones Végétales,” and coined the word aromatherapy (the therapy of aromatic plants). Lavender was used by doctors during WWII to heal wounds.
Currently, lavender is used widely as a flavour component in foods and beverages. In manufacturing, it is used in pharmaceutical products and as a fragrance ingredient in soaps, cosmetics, perfumes, potpourri, and decorations.
Lavender Essential oil is called the safe oil and is one of the few essential oils that can be directly used on your skin without dilution.
